The Vigil Idiot: Chennai Express

August 12, 2013 7:42 am by Sahil Rizwan

Director Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express never made any promises other than to deliver a lot of laughs and some fun moments with Deepika Padukone (playing Meena) and Shah Rukh Khan (playing Rahul, of ‘You musta already heard the name’ fame). Now, here’s the thing. Even regular followers of The Vigil Idiot tend to call me too nitpicky and hair split-y at times. And I’m pretty sure I agree. But I’d still like to think that I understand how movies are supposed to be judged. Which is why I totally get how a Golmaal and a Ship of Theseus can both get rated pretty highly by critics I trust. It’s because both films deliver on what they promise, right? One gives you laughs and the other gives you something to talk about when you’re in need of a smart-sounding conversation starter. So, keeping that in mind, you know that it doesn’t come from a place of nitpickiness or snobbery when I say that, even for a Rohit Shetty production, this film sucks donkey balls.
