The 700 million smile on Ballmer’s face.

28 Aug

Apparently Microsoft stock rose at the announcement of Steve Ballmer leaving Microsoft. You’d think this would embarrass the gentleman, if you didn’t know the fact that he holds Microsoft stock and his net worth rose by around US$700 million because the stock rose.

This is all beginning to sound like the hoohaa about Vista. Turns out that it was a perfectly good operating system. I met many people who trashed Vista with that air of knowledgeable knowing why Vista was not good, and not one, not ONE could explain why. They were all parroting the same one shallow fact, and had never bothered to find out the specifics of what they were saying.

Turns out Steve Ballmer presided over the most profitable years in Microsoft’s history, and was the man behind the company’s push into an online services platform and of course, the Windows phone software.

Did you know Enron won Fortune Magazine’s award for ‘Most Innovative Company’ 7 years in a row? I get dumbfounded expressions when I tell people that.

We don’t know what we don’t know. And we definitely don’t know what we think we know.
